TRENDS HISTORY
Trends was established in 1974 by Scottish born entrepreneur Jamie Phillips as a management for Dougie Squires and his newly formed Second Generation song and dance team. The intention was to create individual avenues for the talented hit dance team of the Seventies.
Quickly Trends took off and became successful with Dougie choreographing over 2000 television shows as well as producing his own series for the London Weekend television with The 2G's and the Pop People. This led to the Trends Wardrobe Department being created to costume the various shows, Galas, Cabaret and Theatre productions. It was a hive of creative development and created a whole new style in modern clothes for dancers.
Dougie’s unique ability was finding and developing style and talent in young performers and promoting their dreams of success in theatre and television to reality. Young talent like Wei Wei Wong, Roger Howlett, Chris Hennen, Peter Newton, Stephanie Lawrence, Simon Bowman, Rosemarie Ford developed their careers under Trends guidance.
Through the progression of such development so many star performers and choreographers, directors and artistes are still working in the business today.

The 2nd Generation pantomime was the brainchild of Peter Todd of Darlington Civic Theatre and proved especially popular and was the forerunner of so many successful Trends pantomimes. Christopher Biggins played his first dame role for Trends and pantomime is a passion with the company who has produced over 100 brilliantly dressed and top class productions.
The 2nd Generation were featured on stage at the London Palladium supporting so many top world stars from Bruce Forsyth, Duke Ellington, Ethel Merman, Tom Jones, etc and leading to being booked to appear in New York for the “Salute to Sir Lew” a celebration for Lord Grade's triumphs. The group became global with appearances on international television and residential seasons in Hong Kong, Palm Beach Cannes, Spain, Germany, Cape Town, and Holland among other major venues. As well as leading it to his work with the 2nd Generation working with John Lennon, Engelbert Humperdinck, Julie Andrews and the major international stars.
Dougie’s career took off in the four corners of the world directing, choreographing and producing dance shows, Galas, TV series and theatre productions such as Stop the world I want to get off. Irma la Deuce. Guys and Dolls, Sweet Charity, and at the Munich Opera House Oliver and My Fair Lady. Also in Holland (in Dutch) My fair lady, The Andre van Duin Show.
His career took off on a new tangent with directing such vast scale events as The Queen Mothers 100th Birthday, many of the Queens Jubilee celebrations, Gala Horse Shows at Olympia, The Shanghai Celebration of the Horse. All the Queens Horses, VE day celebration's, and many shows at Windsor Castle as well as shows for the Not Forgotten Association at St James Palace.
His proudest moment was being awarded an O.B.E by Her Majesty the Queen for his services to the Arts.
Antony Johns became part of Trends Management in 1978 and worked in close association with Jamie Phillips and took the company over in 1998, leading into new successes and developing the production side for events and providing superb costumes for international events.
The way forward for Trends Entertainment is embracing all the modern technology and aligning it with the experienced Show biz know how for creating top notch Events, Productions & Costumes for any occasion.
